India captain Rohit Sharma is captaining the Indian team for the first time in his career and is the second oldest Indian to captain a Test team in the last 60 years. Anil Kumble captained India at the age of 37 years, while Rohit is captaining at the age of 34.
The Indian team, after receiving two back to back breakthroughs in the second session, managed to bounce back and stabilise as Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant have added 29* for the fifth wicket and India are just one short of reaching the 200 run mark.
Earlier in the session, both Kohli and Vihario achieved personal milestones, while Kohli became only the sixth Indian to reach 8000 Test runs, Vihari brought up his fifth Test half-century. Kohli, who is playing his 100th Test, also became the first Indian to bring up his 8000 Test runs in his 100th Test. Prior to him, only two other players in the entire world have done it- South Africa’s Graeme Smith and Australia’s Ricky Ponting.
Earlier in the day, Lahiru Kumara removed India captain Rohit Sharma to give India the first blow. Later Embuldeniya got Mayank Agarwal Leg Before Wicket. At the the stroke of Lunch India were 109-2.
