The American Hospital Association Board of Trustees has elected Dr. Joanne Conroy to serve as chair-elect in 2023 and chair in 2024.
Conroy is president and CEO of Dartmouth Health, a Lebanon, New Hampshire-based system with patients across northern New England. Dartmouth Health, New Hampshire’s only academic health system, has about 13,000 employees, including more than 2,000 providers in its multispecialty group. Conroy joined Dartmouth in 2017 and has led the system through two major expansions and strategic planning to build its relationship with the Geisel School of Medicine.
Conroy serves on the AHA’s executive and operations committees. In 2021, she chaired the AHA task force on primary care.
Before joining Dartmouth Health, Conroy led Lahey Hospital and Medical Center in Burlington, Massachusetts. Previously she was chief healthcare officer at the Association of American Medical Colleges in Washington, D.C., for five years. She also held leadership roles at New Jersey’s Atlantic Health System and the Medical University of South Carolina.
In January, Conroy will replace John Haupert, CEO of Atlanta-based Grady, as chair-elect. Haupert will succeed Wright Lassiter, CEO of Detroit-based Henry Ford Health System, as board chair. Lassiter will take the helm at CommonSpirit Health on Aug. 1.
