Centene announced new appointments to its senior executive team under CEO Sarah London Wednesday.

The health insurance company promoted executive vice president of healthcare enterprises Ken Fasola to president. Fasola joined the company through its $2.2 billion acquisition of Magellan Health, where he was CEO, last year. He previously held leadership positions at HealthMarkets, UnitedHealth Group and Humana.

Executive vice president and chief transformation officer Jim Murray is assuming the role of chief operating officer. In his former job, he led the value-creation office overseeing the company’s plan to increase margins through divestitures and leadership changes. Before joining Centene, he served as Magellan Health’s president and chief operating officer.

Brent Layton has vacated the president and chief operating officer positions to be senior advisor to London as he heads toward retirement. He will help work on strategic partnerships and business development.

“With these appointments, Centene is aligning the outstanding talent within our senior executive team with the company’s value-creation mission and long-term strategy for growth,” London said in a news release. London became CEO in March, succeeding longtime former chief executive Michael Neidorff, who died in April.

Centene sold off several assets as part of its strategic plan this year, including specialty management service Magellan Specialty Health and pharmacy businesses Magellan Rx and PANTHERx Rare.
