Dr. David Feinberg is the newest member of Humana’s board of directors, the health insurance company announced Tuesday.
Feinberg, president and CEO of healthcare techolology vendor Cerner, will work to advance Humana’s goals to enhance customer experience, reduce costs and deliver for shareholders, board Chair Kurt Hilzinger said in a news release. Hilzinger is a partner at the private equity firm Court Square Capital Partners.
“His background, patient-centric mindset, operating experience and expertise in guiding systems transformations will benefit Humana as the company continues to grow, innovate and execute on its strategy,” Hilzinger said.
Feinberg has been a healthcare executive for more than 25 years. Prior to joining Cerner last year, he spent two years as a vice president at Google Health after a four-year stint as president and CEO of Danville, Pennsylvania-based Geisinger and more than two decades with UCLA Health in Los Angeles, where he was president and CEO from 2011 to 2015.

Humana’s board is about to undergo more change. Last week, the company signed an agreement with activist hedge fund Starboard Value to add two independent directors.
The company is in the midst of an evolution that includes rebranding its $8.1 billion Kindred at Home busines and trimming $1 billion from its budget to compensate for enrolling fewer Medicare Advantage customers than expected for 2022. Humana also is expanding its primary care offerings for older adults and plans to operate up to 260 health centers across 12 states by the end of the year, which would be 60 more than it runs now.
