Ajinkya Rahane and Umesh Yadav shone for KKR although the night belonged to MS Dhoni with his vintage innings where he scored a 38 ball fifty, his first ever in three years. But that was not enough at all for the Super Kings.
Chasing the total of 132 could have been tricky, but Ajinkya Rahane with his 44 and then a 36 run stand between Sam Billings and Shreyas Iyer meant that even the three wickets by Dwayne Bravo could only stretch the match to 18.3 overs.
Earlier in the evening, asked to bat first, Chennai Super Kings got to 131-5 thanks to MS Dhoni’s vintage innings. At one stage, they were struggling at 84-5 at the end of the 17th over. But it was only after that over that Mahi teed off. For KKR, Umesh Yadav bowled brilliantly and so did Sunil Narine and Varun Chakravarthy. While Umesh took two wickets, Chakravarthy picked one, Sunil gave away only 15 runs in his four overs.
