Live market updates: The key benchmark indices were under extreme selling pressure in noon trades as reports quoted Ukraine saying that at least seven people had been killed by Russian shelling. The Russian military has launched attack on Ukraine with reports of blasts in several major cities of the country.
The BSE Sensex was around 2000 points lower around 55,300 levels, while the NSE Nifty50 was below the 16,500 mark with a fall of nearly 600 points. Oil prices continued to soar and crossed the $102 a barrel-mark.
Reports quoted Ukrainian officials as saying that both ballistic and cruise missiles strikes have targeted sites in Ukraine’s capital city Kyiv. The city’s airport is also reportedly being evacuated, while Ukraine has enforced martial law across the country.
On the bourses, all sectoral indices were bleeding too with losses of upto nearly 6 per cent. Highest losses were in Nifty Realty and Nifty PSBs. IT, Auto, Metals, Financials were also significantly lower.
