On a steady march to revamp its SUV lineup in recent years, Mazda has officially debuted its highly anticipated CX-70 to the North American market. And with its elegant yet sporty design cues, the upscale two-row midsize crossover is a total head-turner. All CX-70 powertrains feature electrification in some form; there are two versions of the 3.3-liter inline-six and a 2.5-liter plug-in hybrid. Coupled with an all-wheel-drive system they provide an exceptional driving dynamics whether in the countryside or on city roads. Here’s everything you need to know about the 2025 model-year vehicle.

Elegant yet sporty design cues

Sitting between the compact CX-50 and CX-90 SUV, which debuted last year and shares the same wheelbase despite losing the third row, the CX-70’s wide and low front fascia, chiseled front end and contrasting black accents give it a dynamic presence. Inspired by the 100th Anniversary Special Edition MX-5, the sculpted interior feels modern and refined while a darker-hued color palette, high-quality materials, and finishes, including contrast gray metallic inlays and red Nappa leather with red stitch detailing, skew more masculine. Black metal and machine cut finished 21-inch wheels also enhance the vehicle’s more aggressive stance, even when parked.

Performance, form and function

Mazda’s most advanced powertrains are at the heart of the CX-70, offering responsive and electrified performance and superb driving dynamics. Customers can choose between innovative powertrains: the e-SkyActiv G 3.3L Inline Six Turbo engine with M-Hybrid Boost or the e-SkyActiv G PHEV. At the time of writing, fuel economy figures were not available, but for comparison the CX-90 has an around town all-electric range of 26 miles.

New features designed to enhance utility include remote-folding rear seats for effortless loading, whether luggage or sports equipment like bikes and skis, and an optimized generously sized rear cargo area with additional compartments and hooks for better storage. A unique sub-trunk design will also enable owners to discreetly stow valuables and small items out of sight.

New driver assistance and safety technologies

Mazda’s dedication to vehicle safety has seen it consistently scoop high-tier Top Safety Pick+ awards from the coveted Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), and the CX-70 introduces several new assistance technologies to reduce driver distraction, improve safety and convenience.

In addition to Cruising and Traffic Support, Unresponsive Driver Support is an emergency-only system that can automatically decelerate and stop the vehicle if it detects an unresponsive driver. Also new is the integration of Amazon Alexa. The first Mazda crossover to feature the technology, drivers can make hands-free commands for functions like adjusting radio stations or controlling smart home devices.

With its use of high-quality materials, fine craftsmanship and advanced technologies, the 2025 Mazda CX-70 looks set to be one of the most luxurious vehicles in its class and a worthy addition to Mazda’s lineup.
