Ascension is promoting Chief Strategy and Innovation Officer Eduardo Conrado to president, effective Feb. 1, the nonprofit Catholic health system announced Tuesday.

CEO Joseph Impicciche will relinquish the presidency to Conrado but remain Ascension’s top executive. “Eduardo is a gifted servant leader with the background, experience and talent to help us lead change in this new role as we respond to an evolving healthcare environment,” Impicciche said in a news release. Conrado served on St. Louis-based Ascension’s board of directors from 2014 until 2018, when he became chief digital officer. He transitioned to chief strategy and innovation officer in 2019.

An Ascension spokesperson did not immediately respond to a request for more details.

Chief Operating Officer Craig Cordola will become executive vice president of Ascension Capital, the company also announced Tuesday. Ascension did not specify if Conrado and Cordola will be replaced in when they vacate their positions.

Ascension, with about $28 billion in annual revenue, operates more than 2,600 sites in 19 states. The health system reported an $879.4 million net loss during its first quarter, which ended Sept. 30, compared with a $104.6 million gain in first quarter of the prior year. Ascension recorded a $1.84 billion net loss for fiscal 2022, which ended June 30.
