Intermountain Healthcare on Thursday named Robert Allen as its president and CEO, effective Dec. 1.

Allen currently serves as the chief operating officer of Intermountain, a position he has held since 2017. With more than 25 years of healthcare leadership experience, Allen served as the CEO of hospitals in Massachusetts, New Jersey and Wyoming before joining Intermountain’s team in 2008.

He will replace Interim President and CEO Lydia Jumonville, who has been leading the system while its boardsearched for a permanent successor to Intermountain’s previous president and CEO, Dr. Marc Harrison.

Harrison left the health system in August to join venture capital firm General Catalyst.

Jumonville will continue to serve as the organization’s executive sponsor of integration until her planned retirement at the end of 2023.

Intermountain operates 33 hospitals, nearly 400 clinics and a 1-million-member health plan staffed by around 59,000 employees across seven states. The health system, which merged with SCL Health in April, recently reported a revenue increase of 24.5% to $6.52 billion in the first half of 2022, largely due to patient services and at-risk arrangements rather than traditional fee-for-service models.
