Live news updates: The Central Bureau of Investigation will probe the murder of eight women and children near Bengal’s Rampurhat city, said the Kolkata High Court on Friday. The West Bengal police will hand over to the federal agency papers related to the case, said the court.

Eight residents of a village near Rampurhat were on March 21 burnt to death in violence sparked by the murder of a Trinamool Party gram panchayat leader. “I never thought that such a heinous crime could be committed. The punishment should be exemplary so that no one will dare commit such a crime again,” said Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, leader of Trinamool, after visiting the village on Thursday.

Prime Minister will be the chief guest at Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s swearing-in ceremony in Lucknow for a second term. Preparations are being made for thousands of guests attending the event.

Pakistan’s parliament will convene on Friday to start proceedings into the no-confidence motion, that could take seven days to actually go for voting to decide whether Khan will be removed.
